Cheryl L. Kates-Benman ESQ., attorney at law and Adam Ramos, Big Chief Entertainment present a special night for social justice at the GWU Center, 274 Washington Avenue, in Albany, NY’ May 4th, 2014 from 5pm-9pm.
An “Evening of Social Justice Awareness” comes to Albany with special appearances by speakers and the capital region premiere of the movie “23 Reasons, 23 Years is Enough” produced by film producer Deirdre Sinnott. The night promises to be informative about some of the most pressing issues in the NYS criminal justice system today.
“There is so much information about our criminal justice system people are unaware of,” Cheryl Kates-Benman, ESQ says “It’s not just about locking people up in New York State; it’s about people’s lives, human beings and their families.” Cheryl and Adam hope this event will help the public become educated about what really happens in NYS.
Cheryl Kates-Benman and Adam Ramos are just two of the speakers presenting. Deirdre Sinnott, film producer and former Parole Board Commissioner Thomas Grant, will be presenting, along with NYS Chaplain Benny Custodio and Guy Tweedy from the Thalidomide Trust in coming all the way from England!. There will also be a musical performance by Sibie LaVoz of Ovel Entertainment. Additional speakers TBA.
Some of the issue and stories highlighted will be actual innocence, the case of Scot Ebanks, the felony murder rule, the case of Pascual Carpenter, Solitary Confinement in NYS and the abuse of the disabled in New York State prisons. Learn about Thalidomide victim, Mark Gizewski, featured recently in Solitary Watch and the kick-off of the international public campaign for his release! Hear horror stories about the NYS system of Parole!
There is no charge for the event, but table space is available for organizations and individuals for $25. NYS Individuals are invited to obtain signatures for their loved one’s petitions, promote their related business, organization, or event, and talk to the public to take part of this movement.
